In a high-scoring match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Rajasthan Royals (RR) proved too hot for the Delhi Capitals (DC). Batting first on the placid wicket, RR amassed a massive total of 222; Jos Buttler appeared unbeatable, scoring another masterful century while other batters chipped in with crucial runs.

DC failed to cross the line and remained 15 runs short. In the T-20 format, the margin of 20 runs means a one sided match. Yesterday, R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, the spin duo for RR, stood like rocks between the DC batters. Both bowlers bowled economically and helped their team reach the top of the points table.

The IPL 2022 has been the biggest source of entertainment for Indian cricket fans. The grand success of the IPL has made it the most successful league globally.

Two matches on Saturday

IPL action takes place every day. In the first match today, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are ready to face the challenge of Gujarat Titans (GT) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai this afternoon. Gujarat Titans have been playing fantastic cricket, winning 5 of their last 6 games, while KKR have failed to live up to expectations.

KKR started their campaign with a promising note but lost three consecutive fixtures. The franchise is now in a must-win situation. It would be do or die for KKR in today’s match against GT otherwise it would be a herculean task for Kolkata to come back in this tournament.

The Gujarat Titans have done extremely well under the guidance of skipper Hardik Pandya. He has marshalled his troops with wisdom and used his players judiciously.

In the afternoon game, bowlers have respite and can breathe easily, and they don’t need to worry about dew. The match is crucial for Rahid Khan to achieve a rare feat. He is just one wicket away from taking 100 wickets in the IPL. He will be the second overseas bowler, after Narine, to achieve this spectacular distinction.

In another encounter tonight, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are gearing up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Currently, RCB is positioned in the third spot while SRH is in the fifth place.

Both teams are replete with confidence. SRH came back strongly after losing the first two matches, winning the four successive encounters in almost identical fashion. SRH has made winning their habit, and it is a common phrase in the sporting arena. Both sides look in tremendous touch. It is going to be a 50/50 chance.

Head-to-head, RCB has won 8 and lost 11 against SRH. Since 2018, it is 4 wins against 5 losses.

The test of captaincy is also on the line with Faf du Plesis versus Kane Williamson. Both have vast experience of leading their national teams for long periods of time. Their strategy would be crucial for their sides. Which team will prove strategically superior? It’s a “wait and watch” game.

Both matches are expected to touch the wire. On Super Saturday, cricket fans will have a feast of twin matches. Be ready for another double header on the partial holiday.
