SBI submits electoral bonds all details with serial numbers to EC

NEW DELHI: Today, On the directions of the Supreme Court, State Bank of India (SBI) has submitted all details of electoral bonds with serial numbers to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The data includes the all-important unique numbers for the bonds, which will help match the donors with the political parties that were the recipients.

NEW DELHI: Today, On the directions of the Supreme Court, State Bank of India (SBI) has submitted all details of electoral bonds with serial numbers to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The data includes the all-important unique numbers for the bonds, which will help match the donors with the political parties that were the recipients. 

The SBI chairman filed a compliance affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that all details of the electoral bonds, including alphanumeric numbers, have been disclosed to the Election Commission. In an affidavit filed before the top court, the SBI chairman said that “on 21.03.2024, the State Bank of India has provided/disclosed all details of the electoral bonds which are in its possession and custody to the Election Commission of India”.

One of the points of the affidavit reads, “It is respectfully submitted that SBI has now disclosed all details and that no details [other than complete account numbers & KYC details] have been withheld from disclosure.” It added, “The SBI is now revealing information (along with that already disclosed) which will show: a) The name of the purchaser of the bond; b) The denomination and specific number of the bond; c) The name of the party that has encashed the bond; d) Last four digits of the bank account number of political parties; e) The denomination and number of the bond encashed.”

The details given by the bank are expected to be uploaded by the Election Commission on its website shortly. On March 21, 2024, the SBI provided/disclosed all details of the Electoral Bonds which are in its possession and custody to the Election Commission of India, the affidavit of SBI states .
