The SC today sought the feedback of Narendra Modi government on a petition challenging notification banning the cattle sale in open markets for slaughtering.

While issuing notice, the vacation bench gave government two weeks’ time to react to the petition by a Hyderabad-based advocate.

Additional Solicitor General P S Narasimha, making case for the government said that the objective behind bringing the notification was to have a regulatory regime on cattle trade across India.

It is worthwhile mentioning that the Centre on 26 May banned the sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter through an Environment Ministry notification.
