SC dismisses two pleas challenging Delhi HC verdict upholding Centre Agnipath scheme

New Delhi: Today, The Supreme Court dismissed two petitions challenging the Delhi High Court order upholding the government’s Agneepath scheme for admissions to the armed forces and upheld the scheme’s validity.

The court has fixed April 17 as the date for hearing other plea related to recruitment in the Indian Air Force before the Agneepath scheme is launched.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala held that candidates selected through recruitment processes like rallies, physical and medical tests for the defense forces before the launch of the Agneepath scheme do not have vested right of appointment.

Dismissing separate petitions filed by Gopal Krishna and advocate ML Sharma against the High Court’s decision, he said, ‘Sorry, we would not like to interfere with the High Court’s decision. The High Court had considered all the aspects.’

The apex court had on March 27 agreed to hear the petitions filed against the Delhi High Court judgment upholding the Centre’s scheme for recruitment in the armed forces. The High Court had on February 27 said that the Agneepath scheme was framed in the national interest with the laudable objective of maintaining national security.
