New Delhi: No respite for fact-checker Mohammad Zubair at the moment from the court. The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended his interim bail till further orders.
The alt-news founder, Zubair, was convicted in a case lodged against him in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly outraging religious sentiments. He was accused of speaking some derogatory language against mahants.
On behalf of the state government, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju told a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna that the Uttar Pradesh government was intending to file a counter affidavit. Zubair was seeking that the FIRs registered against him related to that matter be removed.
Instruction has been given to the state government to submit its answer within four weeks after the bench listed the case for final hearing on September 7.
Earlier, the vacation bench of the apex court had given a five-day interim bail to the accused on July 8.
