SC pauses West Bengal government’s ban on ‘The Kerala Story’

Kolkata: The Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the film ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal. Along with this, the Tamil Nadu government has also been directed to provide adequate security to the people watching the film in theatres. The filmmaker also admitted that the data of 32 thousand women is not certified. It has been said by the manufacturer that they will give a disclaimer by May 20 that there is no authentic verified data for the data of 32,000 women.

The Supreme Court said that a disclaimer will have to be put up by 5 pm on May 20 that there is no solid basis for the figure of 32,000. The court has also ordered the producer to give a disclaimer that the film is based on fiction. Let us tell you that in the teaser of ‘The Kerala Story’, it was claimed that 32 thousand women were converted in Kerala and they were recruited in terrorist organizations like ISIS. Regarding the same, the Supreme Court has ordered to put a disclaimer.

Earlier, the Supreme Court raised questions on the West Bengal government regarding the ban. CJI Chandrachud said, it is the duty of the government to maintain law and order. It is a positive obligation of the state to maintain law and order. In this way you can choose any 13 people in the society.

They will ask to ban anything. Rules cannot be used to impose on the public’s tolerance, except to show sports or cartoons. Otherwise all films will find themselves at this place. In fact, on behalf of the Bengal government, Abhishek Manu Singhvi had said that it was banned due to deteriorating peace system in the state.

The CJI told the West Bengal government that the film has been released everywhere in the country. Power should be used in a proportionate manner. You cannot make the fundamental right of free speech dependent on public display of emotions.

The Supreme Court said that when the film can run in the whole country then what is the problem in West Bengal. If there is a law and order problem in any one district, then ban the film there, those who don’t want to see it, don’t watch it. Singhvi said that the film ran from May 5 to May 8, we did not stop it. We provided security. There was a serious threat from the intelligence report.

The CJI said that intolerance of any kind cannot be tolerated, but the fundamental right to freedom of expression cannot be determined on the basis of public display of an emotion. Public display of emotions has to be controlled. If you don’t like it then don’t watch it.
