SC to hear CM Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against arrest on April 15

NEW DELHI: On Saturday, The Supreme Court will hear on April 15 the plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case.

Earlier, Kejriwal has challenged in the Supreme Court the Delhi High Court order validating the ED arrest in the money laundering case related to the excise policy scam. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta will hear the matter.

on April 9, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging against his arrest in a money laundering case dismissed by a Delhi court. The court said that the Enforcement Directorate has sufficient material to arrest the Aam Aadmi Party leader. Hearing a plea challenging his arrest by the ED in a money laundering case registered in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam, Justice Swarn Kant Sharma held Kejriwal’s arrest valid and dismissed his plea.

The court found that the agency had sufficient material which led to his arrest. The court said that his non-participation in the investigation and the delay caused by him affected those in judicial custody. The court found that the material collected by the ED showed that the Delhi CM conspired and was involved in the formulation of the excise policy and used the proceeds of crime.

According to the information,”He is allegedly involved personally in the formulation of the policy and demanding bribes, and secondly, in his capacity as the national convener of the AAP.”

On March 21, CM Kejriwal was arrested by the ED and has been sent to judicial custody till April 15. The Delhi CM questioned the veracity of the statements made by government witnesses and argued that these statements were given in exchange for their release and tickets to contest elections.
