SC to hear TV host Rohit Ranjan’s appeal tomorrow regarding Rahul Gandhi’s video case

New Delhi: On Wednesday, television host Rohit Ranjan urgently requested protection from the Supreme Court due to numerous First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against him.

Mr. Ranjan has come under fire for airing what was apparently doctored footage of the Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi.

“This is the case of a TV anchor. In one of his shows, he made a mistake. He publicly apologised and offered an unreserved apology, yet he still faces numerous FIRs. He was interrogated by the Noida Police before being freed on bail. The Chhattisgarh Police have been searching for him to arrest. “We seek an urgent listing,” senior advocate Siddharth Luthra submitted before a vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and J.K. Maheshwari during an oral mention.

The court is ready to hear the case tomorrow on Thursday, but took exception, minutes later, to the fact that the application had not yet been filed in the Supreme Court.

The advocate-on-record said the application was in the process of being numbered by the registry.

Mr. Ranjan had already been questioned for around 12 hours by the Noida Police, who set him free on bail.

The Noida Police had removed him from his Ghaziabad residence on Tuesday, whereas Chattisgarh police failed to perform their duty on the same day. The Raipur Police reached Delhi with a non-bailable warrant against Mr. Ranjan.
