SCO summit: Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Jinping share stage together without handshake or smile

Nrw Delhi: At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged to increase connectivity, despite maintaining a safe distance from the Chinese president, Xi Jinping.

After clashes in the Galwan valley, PM Modi and President Jinping appeared together on the global stage for the first time. In spite of being on one platform, the distance of two leaders at the summit made it clear that there is tension along the Indo-China border.

PM Modi is said to have missed the dinner meeting on Thursday evening and arrived on time for the annual summit on Friday. During the photo session, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping stood side by side for a photo opportunity, but they avoided smiling or shaking hands.

At the SCO summit, PM Narendra Modi, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Shariff, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and leaders from other countries participated in the SCO and deliberated on the regional security situation and ways to increase trade and connectivity at the annual summit of the group.
