The Shiv Sena has intensified its attack on Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband, MLA Ravi Rana. Sena MP Sanjay Raut alleged that the Rana couple had connections with the underworld.
Navneet Rana and her husband were arrested on April 23 when they were planning to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside the private residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Raut has been persistently questioning the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing and the Enforcement Directorate for not investigating the transaction made between the Amravati MP and builder as well as film financier Yusuf Lakdawala, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Lakdawala died in jail in September last year.
Raut had shared a screenshot of a document in which he had listed the assets of Navneet Rana. This included a loan of Rs 80 lakh from Yusuf Lakdawala. Lakdawala was accused of having links to the operations of Don Dawood Ibrahim.
Raut had tweeted on Tuesday night, questioning whether the Enforcement Directorate had investigated the matter. He declared the link between Navneet Rana and Lakdawala a matter of national security.
Raut tweeted on Wednesday morning, “Lakdawala was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case of 200 crores. He died in the lockup itself.” Part of Yusuf’s illegal earnings is still in Navneet Rana’s account. So when will ED serve tea to Rana? Why is this D-gang being saved? “Why is the BJP deafeningly silent?”
As per a report on Wednesday, the economic offences wing of the Mumbai Police could register a new case against Navneet Rana and her husband, related to their alleged links with Yusuf Lakdawala.
Responding to Raut’s allegation, senior advocate Rizwan Merchant, the lawyer of the Rana couple, made it clear that they would respond only if the evidence is provided.
He said, “Every baseless and senseless allegation backed by a political motive doesn’t necessitate a reaction. Let them come forth with evidence and we’ll deal with it. “
