Former Kerala minister and senior Congress leader Aryadan Muhammed died on Sunday at the age of 87. Mohammed was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode and died this morning.
Kerala: Former Kerala minister and senior Congress leader Aryadan Muhammed died on Sunday at the age of 87. Mohammed was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode and died this morning. The former Kerala minister was an eight-time MLA, representing the Nilambur constituency in Malappuram district of Kerala.
Aryadan Mohammed entered politics in 1952 as a member of the Congress Party and remained a part of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee till 1958. He was the secretary of the Congress Legislature Party during the 10th KLA (Kerala Legislative Assembly). In addition, former minister Aryadan Mohamed served as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 1998 to 2001. Along with this, from 2001 to 2004, he served as the chairman of PUC of KLA.
Aryadan Mohammad has been an MLA for eight times. He was an eight-time MLA from Nilambur constituency from 1977 to 2011. He was also made a minister thrice in the state. Mohammed first became a minister in EK Nayanar’s ministry. After this, he was also made a minister in AK Antony’s cabinet and Oommen Chandy government.
According to media reports, Aryadan Shaukat, son of the late Congress leader, told that Aryadan’s body will be taken to Nilambur on Sunday, where the public can pay tribute to him. Shaukat told that the last rites of Aryadan Mohammad will be done on Monday at 9 am.
