A two-member inspection team of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has found lapses in Air India’s internal safety audit and the regulator is probing the matter. Officials gave information about this. An Air India spokesperson said all airlines are subject to regular safety audits by regulators and other bodies. The DGCA team had visited Air India’s office in Gurugram, Haryana on 25 and 26 July.

As per the inspection report submitted to the DGCA, the airline was supposed to check routine safety issues in various areas of operations such as cabin surveillance, cargo, ramp and load, but during surprise checks, the team found that the airline had submitted fake reports in all 13 cases.

Correct report of CCTV, recording, auditee statement not given
When the team re-verified through CCTV, recordings, auditee statement, shift register documents, GD (General Declaration) list, passenger declaration, the reports were found to be forged.

Further, the inspection report stated that these forged test reports were not signed by the Chief of Flight Safety (CFS). The checklist was signed by an auditor from the Quality Management System (QMS) department, which does not come under the approval and inspection purview of the DGCA.
