Chennai: 7 Senior MBBS students have been suspended in the famous Christian Medical College of Tamil Nadu. These students of CMC Vellore are accused of ragging and sexually assaulting a group of MBBS first year students. This action has been taken after an alleged video of this ragging went viral on social media. The college management has constituted a committee for investigation, on whose report further action will be taken. Police has also started investigation in this matter.
MBBS first year student shared video
According to the report, a video is going viral on social media. This video of about 1.52 minutes was shared by a student of MBBS first year. In this video, some senior students are seen taking ragging of him and his colleagues. In this video made outside the college hostel, senior students are seen forcing the juniors wearing only underwear to lie in the mud outside the college hostel and do pushups. During this, water is being showered on them from the pipe. In the video, some students are also shown swimming in water filled with mud like a pond.
In the visuals, two youths are seen hugging each other in a very inappropriate way, while one youth is seen hitting the other youth and touching his genitals. In the video, a group of young students is seen running here and there. In the caption written in the video, it has been alleged that the seniors have forced the juniors to do all these things.
After the video went viral, the college sought a thorough police investigation and the police said the enquiry is underway. Police said the investigating started after Christian Medical College Vellore reported the matter to them.
On the other hand, the CMC authorities said the video appears to be old and added that they have suspended seven senior medical students.
“We have suspended seven senior students for alleged ragging and have given a police complaint seeking a thorough investigation,” a CMC official was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Police further stated that the CMC officials have given them an anonymous complaint over the incident.
