Former world number one tennis star Maria Sherapova of Russia has revealed her pregnancy. She made it clear that she was pregnant with her first child.
The golden girl of tennis bagged five Grand Slam titles in her illustrious career. In her playing days, she was a cool-minded customer who tried her best to sweat her opponent on the court.
In 2020, she hung up her racquet. Sharapova shared her pregnancy news on Instagram with her 4.2 million followers.
She shared a picture of herself on a beach and wrote, “Precious beginnings!!! Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty. “
Sharapova turned 35 on April 19 and has been in a relationship with British businessman Alexander Gilkes. Both have been dating each other since 2018 and got engaged in December 2020.
Sharapova wins her first Wimbledon at 17
Sharapova came into the limelight as the golden girl of tennis in the year 2004 when she conquered Serena Williams in the final and grabbed her maiden Wimbledon title at the age of 17. Since then, she has never looked back and has received many accolades. The Russian star became the third youngest player to grab the All England Club’s hallowed grass courts.
The journey of Sharapova continued and she emerged victorious in the 2005 US Open title and became the world’s number one player in the women’s circuit. She was let down in 2007 amidst her shoulder injury. In 2012, the Russian star captured the French Open and became the 10th woman to complete a career Grand Slam.
