Andhra Pradesh: In a disturbing incident in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR district, a group of six individuals allegedly assaulted and urinated on a Dalit youth, identified as Shyam Kumar. The local police have acted swiftly by arresting all six accused and filing a non-bailable case against them.
According to authorities, the victim, Shyam Kumar, was allegedly held captive by the six accused for four hours during which he was subjected to physical abuse. Shockingly, when he requested water, the assailants reportedly urinated on him.
The incident has sparked outrage, leading to a protest organized by the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) Scheduled Caste (SC) cell. The protest, led by TDP SC cell president MMS Raju, resulted in road blockades and calls for justice.
MMS Raju, addressing the media, decried the rise in attacks on Dalits during Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure. He specifically highlighted the assault on Shyam Kumar, who was reportedly attacked by followers of the ruling party, and expressed concern that those responsible had received station bail and were free despite the severe assault.
Raju noted that doctors had recommended an operation for Shyam’s jaw, which would require three days for recovery. He vehemently called for the arrest of all involved in the incident.
Vijayawada City Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata provided additional information about the attack, stating that Shyam Kumar was lured by his old friend, Harish Reddy, and five others who forcibly took him to a different location and subjected him to severe physical assault during transit.
The accused will be presented before a fast-track court and remanded, according to the police.
