Shocking: UP family carrying 2-year-old’s body leaves on foot due to lack of hearse van

Baghpat, UP: In yet another shocking incident came to fore from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh where 10-year-old boy carries 2-year-old brother and could be seen walking a distance of around 50m followed closely by his father. Boy died on Friday, crushed by a car near a bank. After his autopsy at the district hospital in UP’s Baghpat on Saturday, the family could not get a hearse van despite requests, so his father and brother carried the body in their arms. They got the van as locals started making videos and the authorities were alerted.

The videos have since gone viral, particularly of Kala’s 10-year-old elder brother carrying his body. The father, Praveen Kumar, a daily wager in Baghpat, did not have ₹ 1,000 to hire for a vehicle to the family village, Lilonkhedi in Shamli district, about 50 km away.

The father is a labourer who could not afford to hire a private vehicle.

The two-year-old had died on Friday — run over by a car near a bank in Baghpat, on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway — after his stepmother, Sita, pushed him away as she was irritated by his incessant crying, according to the police. She was arrested from the spot — she pleaded she did not intend to harm him — and the child’s body sent for post-mortem examination.

Police taking the stepmother into custody after the child’s death.

At the hospital the next day, Praveen Kumar and his son Sagar were accompanied by a relative, Rampal, who said they repeatedly requested for any vehicle to carry the body. “The officials didn’t pay any heed,” he said. “It was late,” said Praveen Kumar, “So, we picked up the body and left.”

Sita, a resident of Khatu Shyam, Rajasthan, was married to Praveen in Lilaun Khedi village of Shamli. One of Sita’s daughters and four sons have died during the Corona period, while she was living in her in-laws’ house with four. Sita was going to Lilaun Khedi with her daughter and one and a half year old son Kala from Delhi side on the morning of 26 August. She was standing near Canara Bank of Baghpat Nagar on the Delhi-Yamunotri Highway with her son Kala in her lap. Black was crying a lot. Despite Sita’s efforts, Kala did not remain silent, so suddenly in anger, she threw Kala on the highway.

At the same time, a speeding car on the highway crushed Kala. Seeing this, a crowd of people gathered on the spot. People took the child to the CHC, but the doctors declared Kala dead. Kokko, an eyewitness to the accident, said crying that her mother had thrown her brother on the road. He is crying. After getting information, the Baghpat Kotwali police reached the spot and sent the child’s body for post-mortem. Baghpat Kotwali police A case of culpable homicide was registered against the accused woman and she was arrested.
