Shyam Saran Negi, 106, Independent India’s first voter dies after voting for Himachal polls

New Delhi: Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of independent India, passed away this morning. Negi, a resident of Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh, was 106 years old. DC Kinnaur Abid Hussain says that the district administration is making arrangements for the last rites of the oldest voter. All arrangements are being made to send them off respectfully.

New Delhi: Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of independent India, passed away this morning. Negi, a resident of Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh, was 106 years old. DC Kinnaur Abid Hussain says that the district administration is making arrangements for the last rites of the oldest voter. All arrangements are being made to send them off respectfully.

According to the information, the health of Master Negi was going bad for the past few days. Due to this, Master Negi had voted for the Himachal Assembly elections on 2nd November through ballot paper. First voter Master Shyam Saran Negi’s ear pain and eyesight had also reduced. On November 2, he had voted for the 34th time in his life.

DC Kinnaur Abid Hussain Sadiq confirmed the news and said that Master Shyam Sharan Negi has said goodbye to the world, his health was not keeping well for a long time and in such a situation, his death has been reported around 3 am on Friday. . Today the administration will perform the last rites with respect. Shyam Sharan Negi’s son CP Negi said that his father was ailing for a long time and he died at around 3 am today and he has informed the administration.

After casting his vote on November 2, the country’s first voter, Master Shyam Saran Negi, had said that the country had got independence from the British and the rule of kings. Today, in this great festival of democracy, every person has been given freedom to choose the person who develops the country and today I have exercised my vote at home due to poor health. All have ensured their participation in the great festival of democracy.

The first Lok Sabha elections were held in the country in 1952. Because there was a possibility of heavy snowfall during the elections in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, in Kinnaur, the votes were cast six months ago in 1951 itself and Master Negi cast the first vote. Shyam Sharan Negi went to school at the age of 10 and studied till the fifth standard in Kalpa. After this he went to Rampur for further studies. It took three days on foot to reach Rampur. Studied up to class IX from Rampur. Due to his old age, he did not get admission in class 10th and from 1940 to 1946 he worked as a forest guard in the forest department. After that he went to the education department and became a teacher in Kalpa Lower Middle School. Master Negi was born in 1917.
