New Delhi: The Punjab government curtailed the security cover for over 420 VVIPs last week. But the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala after the reduction of security cover put the AAP government in Punjab on the backfoot.
The Mann government is ready to restore the security cover of over 420 VVIPs from June 7, the Punjab government said today. This decision was taken five days after the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
The Aam Aadmi Party government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which heard a petition by former minister OP Soni, who is among the 424 whose security cover was curtailed.
The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was slammed and got heavy criticism over curtailing security for VVIPs since Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead.
To a question by the high court on why security cover was curtailed, the Punjab government said it needed the security personnel for Operation Bluestar’s anniversary on June 6, referring to the military offensive in June 1984 to eliminate terrorists who had dug in at the Golden Temple.
Critics are blaming the AAP government in Punjab for the shooting death of Sidhu Moose Wala. The Punjab government has to work hard again from the grassroots level to win the hearts of the people.
