Guwahati: Guwahati: Six tourists were killed and 11 injured in a massive avalanche at Nathu La mountain pass in Sikkim today. After the avalanche, many tourists are feared trapped in the snow. Rescue operation has been started. Over 150 tourists have been reported to be in the area during the avalanche.

According to sources, police officials have said that six tourists were killed in an avalanche on the 15th Mile on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road connecting Gangtok to Nathula, while more than 80 people are feared trapped under the snow.

The avalanche happened on Tuesday at around 12.20 pm. Six people injured by this died in the nearest military hospital. These include four men, one woman and one child.

According to the police, more than 150 tourists are still stranded beyond Mile 15. Meanwhile, 30 tourists who were trapped in the snow have been rescued and admitted to STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital in Gangtok.
