New Delhi: Six men were sent to 14 days of judicial custody after they were accused of hitting and dragging a 20-year-old woman for 13 kilometres under their car in Delhi.
The accused were brought to the jail lock-up and virtually appeared in Rohini court through video conference. Ashutosh, another suspect, has submitted a bail request. His bail plea is to be heard tomorrow.
According to Delhi police, they are investigating the ‘conspiracy’ and looking into Ashutosh’s role in the case as well.
The police reported that statements from 20 witnesses had so far been recorded, adding that they could ask for police custody if needed.
The accused claimed that the windows were down and loud music was playing inside the car. They originally claimed they were unaware the woman was trapped under their vehicle.
Police sources claim that they have now acknowledged that they were aware that the woman was trapped under the car but didn’t stop due to fear.
The suspects will undergo hearing tests to determine their hearing capacity, according to the police. Anjali Singh, 20, was struck by a car shortly after 2 am after a new year’s party in the morning as she and a companion rode their scooter back to their house following a new year’s party. Her friend landed on the opposite side and sustained minor injuries, but her leg was stuck in the car’s front wheel, and she was dragged for around 13 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in North Delhi.
The accused have been charged with reckless driving, causing death by negligence, and “culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”
