Panaji: In the breaking development in the case, Goa Police on Saturday took into custody a suspected smuggler who allegedly supplied drugs to two accused arrested in connection with the death of social media influencer and BJP leader Sonali Phogat. And Curlies beach owner is also arrested in BJP leader’s murder. A senior officer of Goa Police gave this information to sources.
Dattaprasad Gaonkar was taken into custody from Anjuna after both the accused in their statements had confessed to buying drugs from the arrested suspect, the police officer said. According to the official, another person detained has been identified as Edwin Nunes, the owner of Curlies restaurant where Sonali Phogat was partying late on August 22, before 42’s death.
Earlier, Goa Police had arrested Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh, who came to Goa with Haryana’s popular Tiktok star Sonali Phogat. Sonali Phogat was brought dead from her hotel at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district on the morning of 23 August.
This brings the total number of arrests in the Haryana BJP leader’s death case to four. Edwin Nunes, Curlie’s restaurant owner, and drug dealer Dattaprasad Gaonkar’s arrests come a day after two of her associates, Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh were arrested.
Police said on Friday that Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh had allegedly mixed intoxicants in water and forced Sonali Phogat to drink it during a party at Curlies restaurant on the intervening night of August 22 and 23. Police said both have been charged with murder. A senior police officer had said that financial interests could be responsible for the alleged murder of Sonali Phogat.

Initially, the cause of Sonali Phogat’s death was said to be a heart attack. But after the post-mortem report came, the suspicion of his murder increased. In the PM report, injury marks were found on Sonali Phogat’s body, while the case of forcibly giving her drugs was also found. He died due to drug overdose.
On the basis of the CCTV footage taken by the police, Sonali’s two associates Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh were arrested. During interrogation, both confessed that they had given Sonali to drugs by forcibly dissolving it in water. This is also confirmed by CCTV footage.
