New Delhi: Goa Police has got a big success in the alleged murder case of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. After the death of BJP leader and social media star Sonali Phogat, arrests are being made one after the other. The Goa Police have arrested one more drug peddler in connection with the case of alleged murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat, an official said on Sunday. With this, five people have so far been arrested in the case. The accused has been identified as Rama Mandrekar. The police themselves have confirmed that Sonali Phogat has been given drugs shortly before her death.
So far, the police have arrested a total of five people in this whole case. It is alleged that Sonali Phogat was fed by mixing drugs in the drink. In this case, the police have arrested Sonali’s PM Sudhir Sangwan, associate Sukhwinder Singh. Both were sent to 10-day police custody on Saturday. So far five people are in police custody in this case along with two drug peddlers. Videos of CCTV footage from the restaurant had emerged on social media on Saturday. In one video, Phogat is seen dancing with Sagwan and the latter is seen forcing her to drink water which she instantly spits out.
Another video showed Phogat being escorted out of the restaurant by the accused. She is seen staggering and almost falling near the staircase on her way out. At the same time, Goa CM Pramod Sawant had spoken of strict action against the culprits in the Sonali Phogat death case. Pramod Sawant on Saturday said his government was fully supporting the probe into the death of BJP leader and actress Sonali Phogat from day one and that those involved in it would be punished by the Goa Police. Sawant further said that the accused is currently in police custody, investigation is going on. The state government will work to bring the culprits to justice.
In the Sonali Phogat case, the police has also questioned the owner of Curlies restaurant Edwin Nunes. The owners of the restaurant Edwin and Dattaprasad Gaonkar were arrested by the Goa Police. Later during investigation it was revealed that Dattaprasad was working as a ward boy at Hotel Grand Leoni Resort in Anjuna. Sonali Phogat and her associates were staying in this hotel. The accused Sudhir Sangwan has given information about drugs during interrogation, which has been seized from Sonali’s washroom.
Sonali Phogat, 42, died under suspicious circumstances in Goa on August 23. He was taken to St Anthony’s Hospital, where doctors declared Sonali Phogat brought dead. In the post-mortem report, injury marks were found on Sonali Phogat’s body. After which the Goa Police registered a case of murder.
