Patna: After the drama in Bihar politics, the RJD and Congress have got a chance to become part of the new government. The JD (U) snapped ties with the BJP and shook hands with two former allies.
The upheaval in Bihar politics has provided a lifeline to the Congress, and its workers have an opportunity to provide some berths to the grand old party.
One of the Mahagathbandhan’s party MLAs said Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has been playing a mediator’s role in the formation of a new government in Bihar.
Nitish Kumar talked to both Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi soon after snapping ties with the saffron party and resigning from his post as chief minister.
Congress MLA Pratima Das said Sonia Gandhi played the role of a mediator in keeping the Mahagathbandhan on one platform. Her role was crucial and she intervened in the critical political situation in Bihar, which helped in the formation of a new government in the state.
The ball is now in the court of the party top brass as far as the allocation of ministerial berths to Congress MLAs is concerned.
Pratima Das further said that in a democratic setup, everyone can give his or her opinion.
Since the change of guard, several Congress MLAs have been in the race to get a ministerial berth in Nitish’s cabinet.
Ajeet Sharma, a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, said that the Congress is hoping to get at least four ministerial berths.
The Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government is set to face a floor test on August 24 to prove its majority in the Bihar Assembly. It is expected that the Bihar Cabinet expansion is expected to take place on August 16.
