New Delhi: India has been gearing up for the final match of the ongoing five-match T20Is series against South Africa, to be held in Bengaluru on Sunday. This match is crucial, especially for the youngster to impress the selectors to become part of the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year, starting on October 16 to November 13.
The old war horse, Dinesh Karthik, is set to book his place in the World Cup squad amidst his heroics in the 4th T20 at Rajkot. Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer will probably be part of the final 15 of the Indian team.
Some of the youngsters who are in the team would like to give every ounce of their energy to confirm their berth. Most of the places are fixed, but a few surprise packages may get a chance to board the flight for the T-20 World Cup.
Two teams from India will be in action on the tour of the UK. The senior team has to play a solitary Test, three ODIs and three T20Is against England, led by Rohit Sharma. One more team will be in action in the UK to play two T20Is against Ireland led by Hardik Pandya. The performance of both teams will be monitored minutely for the final selection of players in the T20 WC.
Speaking to the media, Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly assured that Rahul Dravid is looking at all the players’ performances and stated that India might start playing their preferred combination from the England tour next month.
Rahul Dravid (Team India head coach) has been planning to play a settled set of players at some stage. “We will probably start playing with players who are likely to play in the T20 World Cup in October,” Ganguly said.
India will play three Twenty20 Internationals against England as well. Players have to perform on the field because the queue is long and only 15 have to board a plane to land in Australia. Maintaining high fitness is important for players to compete in any big event without any injury.
India has selected many budding cricketers for the Ireland trip. Who knows, maybe one or two new faces will join the team and play in the coveted T20 WC in 2022.
