Durban: A South African woman who made the most cups of tea—and that, too, in just one hour—broke a Guinness World Record. Ingar Valentyn of Wupperthal decided to try for a world record by brewing rooibos tea. The leaves of the spalathus linearis shrub, native to South Africa, are used to make this red herbal tea. She used the three flavours: strawberry, vanilla, and original.

To beat the record, Ingar had to brew at least 150 cups of tea in one hour. Ingar was certain to have surpassed the 150 mark and was thought to have served 170 cups. She prepared 250 cups of tea in an hour as opposed to 170, so she was wrong with the numbers. However, one cup was disqualified because it was not able to match the minimum level requirement of 142 ml, so the official count remained 249. It means her speed was four cups per minute! Quite amazing.

As per the Guinness World Records, Ingar went for the record to encourage both tourism and rooibos tea and to encourage the fight of the Wupperthal community after the December 2018 massive wildfire, which caused lots of destruction and more than 200 people became homeless.
Ingar said, “I’m very excited about the record and for our community of Wupperthal,” said Ingar Valentyn to Guinness World Records.
