Speaker’s action on RaGa’s 100-minute speech, many parts removed from parliamentary proceedings

Parliament Session 2024: On Monday, the sixth day of the Parliament session, the President’s address was discussed in the Lok Sabha for 13 hours. The proceedings which started at 11 am continued till 12 midnight. During this, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi cornered Modi government and BJP on many issues. He discussed with the Prime Minister and the Speaker on many issues including Hindu, Agniveer, farmers, Manipur, NEET, unemployment, Ayodhya, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lok Sabha Speaker’s scissors have also been used on Rahul Gandhi’s nearly 100-minute speech. There was such an uproar over Rahul Gandhi’s statement that everyone from Amit Shah to Kiren Rijiju complained to the Lok Sabha Speaker, after which Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took action. He removed some statements of Rahul Gandhi from the parliamentary proceedings.

Actually, Rahul Gandhi started his speech which lasted for one hour and 40 minutes by showing a copy of the Constitution. During the speech, there was fierce bickering between the ruling party and the opposition. Rahul talked about Agniveer, PM Modi’s direct connection with God and the MSP law for farmers. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a strong attack on the BJP in the Lok Sabha and accused the ruling party leaders of dividing people on communal lines.

There was a huge protest from the ruling party on this. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress leader for calling the entire Hindu community violent. PM Modi interrupted twice while five cabinet ministers stood up and interrupted Gandhi during his speech. Home Minister Amit Shah asked him to apologize.

The dispute between the ruling and opposition leaders is significant as the BJP has lost majority in the Lok Sabha for the first time in ten years and is therefore dependent on its allies to remain in power.
