Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the Delhi Police and DGCA over the alleged incident of sexual harassment in a flight from Delhi to Mumbai. Along with this, the details of the action taken against the accused passenger have been sought.
New Delhi: Another case of sexual harassment in SpiceJet flight came to fore where a flyer takes an obscene pictures of a female cabin crew member and a co-passenger. Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, has issued a notice to the Delhi Police and the DGCA over an incident of alleged sexual harassment in a flight. The Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a video shared on the social media platform Instagram in the case of alleged sexual harassment by a passenger in the flight. This viral video is being told of SpiceJet flight going from Delhi to Mumbai on August 16, 2023.
According to the sources, in the viral video, it is alleged that a male passenger was trying to take obscene pictures of a female flight attendant and his female co-passenger. It has been told that when the young man’s mobile was checked, objectionable pictures of women on board the plane were found from his phone. Meanwhile, Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of IGI Airport and Director General of DGCA in the matter.
In the DCW notice, Maliwal sought a copy of the FIR registered in the case and details of the accused arrested till August 23. Swati Maliwal wrote in the notice, “If the accused has not been arrested, please inform the reasons for the same, give a detailed action taken report in the matter and provide the information sought by the commission keeping in view the seriousness of the matter,” Maliwal Wrote

Apart from this, the commission has asked the DGCA whether the matter has been referred to the Internal Complaints Committee or any other committee under sexual harassment at workplace. Delhi Women’s Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal said that complaints of sexual harassment in flights are increasing. This is unacceptable. In this particular case FIR should be registered and the matter should be thoroughly investigated and the culprits should be punished. DGCA should adopt zero tolerance policy against sexual harassment in flights and take strict action to prevent such incidents in future.
