New Delhi: After multiple glitches, Government issued showcause notice to SpiceJet over safety. It said that SpiceJet has failed to provide safe and reliable air service. The airline has also been asked to give an explanation in the matter. SpiceJet said on Wednesday that one of its cargo aircraft returned to Kolkata due to non-functioning weather radar.

The plane was going to China, which came to know as soon as it took off that its meteorological radar was not working. This is the eighth case of a technical fault in SpiceJet planes in the last 18 days.

Earlier on Tuesday, the airline’s Delhi-Dubai flight was diverted to Karachi due to a fault in the fuel indicator and its Kandla-Mumbai flight landed on a priority basis in the Maharashtra capital after a windshield crack in mid-air. However, another plane was sent from Mumbai for the stranded passengers at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport and it left for Dubai after waiting for about 11 hours.

With these two incidents on Tuesday, the total number of incidents of technical glitches in SpiceJet aircraft in the last 18 days has gone up to eight. According to officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aviation regulator is probing all the incidents.

An unusual decrease in the amount of fuel in the left tank of the plane began to appear when the Boeing 737 MAX plane from Delhi to Dubai was in the air on Tuesday morning, due to which the plane was diverted towards Karachi, officials said.

He said that when the check was done at Karachi airport, no leak was found from the left tank. An official of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCCA) said that the pilot of SpiceJet’s Delhi-Dubai flight, while taking off over Pakistan’s airspace, contacted the control tower and informed that the aircraft had developed some technical snag.
