SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ release date gets postponed again amid Covid scares

Mumbai: Makers of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR) have once again pushed the release date of Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn starrer, citing the situation at the theatres during the pandemic times. However, no new release dates have been announced yet but the makers still pinned on the hopes to come by this October.

Taking to their official Twitter handle, the ‘RRR’ team shared the news with their fans. The post read, “Post production nearly done to have #RRRMovie ready by October’21. But as known to many, we are postponing the release but cannot announce a new date with theatres indefinitely closed. We will release at the earliest possible date when the world cinema markets are up and running.”

While, the mood of the audience is not like that of pre Covid times, any big film is likely to get toppled at the box office miserably after the deadly second wave of the coronavirus.

The fans are hopeful to see if this gets materialized without any further postponement. Meanwhile, there were some assumptions rife about the release of the film that it may hit the screens only by Ugadi 2022, but this hasn’t come yet from the makers.

Set in 1920s India, the screenplay of RRR has been penned by director SS Rajamouli along with his father KV Vijayendra Prasad. The plot line of the movie imagines the two famed ‘heroes’ — Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem — meeting at some point in time. RRR is said to be entirely a work of fiction as there is no written record about what had happened to these two tribal leaders in the time they had spent away from their homes.

‘RRR’ was originally planned for a July 30, 2020 release. However, the unforeseen delays, including those caused by injuries suffered by Jr NTR and Ram Charan during production, forced the filmmakers to push the release date. And then, After months of lockdown, the film was supposed to hit the screens in January this year but once agains got postponed for October 13, 2021 because of the pandemic. The wait for the most awaited movie is still on and if the third wave doesn’t come up, then the film movie might see a big release on Sankranthi 2022. However, makers haven’t locked any date yet.
