Steve Ballmer: Steve Ballmer has become the sixth richest person in the world, surpassing his former boss and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. The achievement came as Microsoft’s shares hit new highs, largely due to its advancements in artificial intelligence in partnership with OpenEye. The change occurred on Monday as Microsoft shares reached a new record high, up 21% this year. As of July 2, this is the first time that Ballmer’s net worth has exceeded that of the Microsoft co-founder.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, more than 90% of Ballmer’s $157.2 billion net worth is tied to Microsoft shares. Born on March 24, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Ballmer joined Microsoft in 1980 as its 30th employee and quickly rose up the ranks. Known for his energetic leadership style, he succeeded Bill Gates as CEO in 2000. During his tenure, Ballmer led Microsoft through significant challenges and expansions, including the launch of Xbox and the acquisition of Skype. He retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of transforming Microsoft into a dominant force in the tech industry.

Gates, along with his former wife Melinda French, has pledged to contribute a substantial amount of money to their foundation, which aims to address global health, poverty and education challenges.
