Strong earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hits Indonesia; triggers tsunami warning

Strong earthquake tremors have been felt once again in Indonesia. Its intensity was measured at 7.7 on the Richter scale, whose tremors were also felt in Australia and East Timor. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) has warned of an aftershock.

Jakarta: Earthquake tremors have been felt once again in Indonesia. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 7.7 on the Richter scale. Due to the strong tremors of the earthquake, people came in panic and came out of their homes. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Australia and East Timor. The quake also triggered a tsunami warning.

There has also been a warning of aftershocks of the earthquake for the next few days. Despite the tremors of the strong earthquake, there has been no warning of tsunami. However, people have definitely been warned about the earthquake coming again. There were earthquakes in Indonesia last year as well, in which there was loss of life and property on a large scale.

“Aftershocks may occur in the next hours/days. Unless it is necessary, stay away from damaged areas for your safety Be careful and follow national authorities’ information,” it wrote on Twitter.

Earthquake tremors were felt about 342 southeast of Indonesia’s Tual region at 2:47 pm local time. The European Seismological Center said that the tremors were also felt in Australia and East Timor, more than 2000 kilometers away from Indonesia. EMSC has warned that its aftershock can be felt in the coming few hours or few days. EMSC has advised the people of the earthquake affected area to stay in damaged houses. However, EMSC has not issued a tsunami warning.

EMSC tweeted, ‘The aftershocks of the earthquake can be felt in a few hours or a few days. If not necessary, stay away from the damaged areas for your safety. Be careful and keep an eye on the information. Let us tell you that there were earthquake tremors in Indonesia in November 2022 as well. At that time there was damage on a large scale. The intensity of the earthquake in Java province was measured at 5.6 on the Richter scale and 318 people lost their lives. Apart from this, more than 62 thousand people had to be displaced.
