New Delhi: On Wednesday, The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Muzaffarnagar, seeking a detailed report on the incident in Muzaffarnagar in which a student was allegedly slapped by his classmates on the instructions of the teacher.

Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had taken cognizance of this matter. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal also asked the SP to inform about the measures taken for the safety of the student and his parents.
Along with this, the apex court also issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and sought its reply by September 25. The Supreme Court was hearing a PIL filed by Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, requesting a speedy investigation into the student slapping case.
Muzaffarnagar police had registered a case against a teacher accused of making communal remarks and ordering students to slap a Muslim classmate for not doing homework. The state education department had also sent a notice to the school regarding the matter.
Teacher’s video went viral A case was registered a day after a video of school teacher Tripta Tyagi went viral on social media. In the video, the teacher was seen asking students in the Khubbapur village school to slap a Muslim student of class II and making communal remarks.
