Belagavi: The effect of the border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra could be seen in educational institutions. A brawl erupted in Belagavi during an inter-college festival, where a second-year Pre-University Course (PUC) student was physically assaulted by his classmates for raising a Karnataka flag. Those who were filming the dance event where the assault took place managed to capture the incident on camera.
This incident occurred at the Gogte College in Belagavi amid ongoing high tensions over the Karnataka–Maharashtra border.
Students can be seen enjoying the DJ night and dancing to the music in the first few seconds of the film. In the first 10 seconds of the video, a student holds the unfurled Karnataka flag aloft for everyone to see, and he continues to hold up the unfurled flag for about 10 seconds.
After a brief period, the student who was holding the Karnataka flag was thrashed by his classmates for this act. Students who are involved in this brawl are minors, and the police summoned them, and further investigation has been underway.
The border dispute issue between Karnataka and Maharashtra is to be heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday, December 1. However, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “Maharashtra’s application is not justifiable.” This is what our lawyers argued. “Our stand is constitutional and legal.”
