Sudarshan Setu: PM Modi inaugurates India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat today

Ahmedabad: To boost connectivity and tourism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat’s Dwarka. The ‘Sudarshan Setu’, connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island, has been constructed at the cost of ₹ 979 crore. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of the 2.3 km-long bridge in October 2017, saying that it will serve as a link between old and new Dwarka. “The four-lane 27.20 metre wide bridge has 2.50 metre wide footpaths on each side,” an official release said.

Sudarshan Setu, built over the blue waters of the Arabian Sea, connects the Okha mainland to the beautiful Bayt Dwarka island. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 980 crore, this architectural giant stretches over a length of 2.32 kilometres. It is not just a bridge but a symbol of innovation, with verses from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna along its length. Additionally, the bridge is equipped with solar panels capable of generating one megawatt of electricity, underscoring the project’s commitment to sustainable development. The inauguration of this bridge is expected to significantly ease travel for devotees and tourists between Dwarka and Bayt-Dwarka, and will also act as a major attraction in itself.

Taking to X, PM Modi stated: “Tomorrow is a special day for Gujarat’s growth trajectory. Among the several projects being inaugurated is the Sudarshan Setu, connecting Okha mainland and Beyt Dwarka. This is a stunning project which will enhance connectivity.”
