Shimla: The Congress’ high command approved Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu as the new chief minister of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. Sukhu’s name will be officially announced by this evening after the discussion with senior party leaders, according to a report by the news agency ANI.

Earlier, there were rumours that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) representative for Himachal Pradesh, Rajeev Shukla, and two observers, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and chief minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel, may fly to New Delhi to reveal the CM candidate’s name.
Pratibha Singh, the state party president and the MP for Mandi, and Mukesh Agnihotri, the leader of the opposition in the departing assembly, were the front-runners for the position of chief minister, in addition, Sukhu, who served as the chairman of the Congress campaign committee during the assembly election.
