Supreme Court Collegium recommends elevation of 4 judges to Madras HC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of four district judges to the Center for appointment as judges of the Madras High Court. The names of R Sakthivel, P Dhanabal, Chinnasamy Kumparappan and K Rajasekhar have been recommended. Along with this, the Supreme Court Collegium has expressed concern over the Center not taking any action despite reiterating its recommendation to appoint Advocate John Sathyan as a judge of the Madras High Court.

The collegium of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul and Justice KM Joseph, while recommending re-appointment, said that the names recommended earlier should not be withheld. Names which have been recommended earlier, including duplicate names, should not be withheld or ignored as it detracts from their seniority.

The collegium has told the Center that names that have been recommended earlier, including duplicate names, should not be withheld or ignored as it affects their seniority. Advancing the recommended names later on pushes the seniority.

In another resolution, the collegium reiterated its earlier recommendation of July 25, 2022, for the appointment of senior advocate Harpreet Singh Brar as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
