Five new appointed SC judges take oath, strength goes up to 32

New Delhi: The new judges were sworn in as Supreme Court judges by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjay Y Chandrachud on Monday. CJI DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to Justice Pankaj Mittal, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Sanjay Kumar, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Mishra as judges of the Supreme Court.

New Delhi: The new judges were sworn in as Supreme Court judges by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjay Y Chandrachud on Monday.CJI DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to Justice Pankaj Mittal, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Sanjay Kumar, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Mishra as judges of the Supreme Court.The strength of the court to 32 against a sanctioned strength of 34.

Today all five judges took oath. The five names that have been approved are those of Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mittal, Patna High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice Ahsanuddil Amanullah and Allahabad High Court Justice Manoj Mishra. name is included.

All the five names for the judgeship in the top court were recommended by the six-member Supreme Court Collegium on December 13 last year.

Justice Pankaj Mithal

Justice Pankaj started his career from Allahabad. On 14 October, he took over as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Born on June 17, 1961, Justice Pankaj completed his graduation from Allahabad University and then completed his LLB degree from Meerut. After this, from 1985, he started practicing in the Allahabad High Court. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 7 July 2006. He became a permanent judge on July 2, 2008. On January 4, 2021, Justice Mithal was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

Justice Sanjay Karol

Justice Sanjay Karol, Judge of Himachal Pradesh Original Cadre, is currently the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. He has practiced in many courts of the country including the Supreme Court. Justice Karol, who was the Solicitor General of Himachal Pradesh from 1998 to 2003, was appointed as a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on March 8, 2007. On 25 April 2017, Justice Karol was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice. Later, on 9 November 2018, he was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, followed by the Patna High Court on 11 November 2019.

Justice PV Sanjay Kumar

Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, a judge of the Telangana High Court, started his practice in 1988. From 2000 to 2003, he was a public prosecutor in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. On 8 August 2008, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice Kumar became a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on October 14, 2019. On 14 February 2021, he took oath as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.

Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah

Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah of Patna High Court started his practice in Bihar Bar Association in 1991. From March 2006 to August 2010, he was Government Pleader for the Government of Bihar. On June 20, 2011, Justice Amanullah was sworn in as a judge of the Bihar High Court. On October 10, 2021, he was appointed to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. However, he was transferred back to the Patna High Court on 20 June 2022.

Justice Manoj Mishra

Justice Manoj Mishra has been practicing as an advocate since 1988. On November 21, 2011, he became an additional judge in the Allahabad High Court. He was sworn in as a permanent judge on 6 August 2013.
