Surat court to pronounce verdict today in case against Rahul Gandhi over Modi Surname remark

New Delhi: The Surat court of Gujarat will pronounce its verdict on the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi surnamed ‘Modi’ on Thursday. During this time, Rahul Gandhi will reach Surat and will be present during the court verdict. During an election rally, Rahul Gandhi made a controversial statement regarding Modi’s surname, on which BJP MLA and former cabinet minister Purnesh Modi sued Rahul Gandhi for defamation.

Rahul Gandhi has appeared three times in the Surat Sessions Court in this case. Last Friday, the court fixed March 23 as the date for pronouncing the verdict. In this case, the court can pronounce its verdict today.

Earlier on Monday, lawyer Kirit Panwala said that the court may pass an order on March 23 against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case over his alleged Modi Sarman remarks. Congress leaders will be present in the court when the court delivers its verdict.

According to information, Rahul Gandhi will directly reach Surat airport today. From where you will go to court. After Rahul Gandhi’s statement, Purnesh Modi, BJP MLA from Surat West, filed a defamation case. The BJP MLA described Rahul Gandhi’s statement as an insult to the Modi community, after which it reached the Surat court.He was last appeared in October 2021 to record his statement and pleaded not guilty. The complainant’s counsel argued that a CD of Rahul Gandhi’s speech and a pen drive proved that he had indeed made the remarks at the rally and that his words defamed the Modi community.
