Panaji: In yet another heart wrenching incident, A car fell into the Zuari river after it hit a railing of a bridge in Kortalim village in Goa. There were four people in the car. Police said personnel from the Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Fire and Emergency Services and Goa Police launched an operation to trace the car and its occupants. The accident happened late in the night at around 1.10 am.

A senior police officer said the SUV car tried to overtake a car on a bridge over the Zuari river in Kortalim village, about 15 km from Panaji. The car then collided with the railing of the bridge and fell into the river.
According to eyewitnesses, there were at least four people in the vehicle and it was being driven by a woman. “The Goa Police along with a coast guard vessel, barges, fire and emergency services personnel launched an operation to locate the vehicle, but could not trace it in the night due to darkness,” police official said.

The Goa Police along with Coast Guard ships, boats, fire brigade and emergency services personnel launched a massive operation to locate the vehicle, but the car could not be traced due to darkness, he said. “Indian Navy divers also joined the search and rescue operation on Thursday morning,” the official said. The bridge is located on a national highway between the cities of Margao and Panaji in South Goa.
