Actress Taapsee Pannu took to Twitter to react to the Income Tax Department raids at her properties. “3 days of intense search of 3 things primarily 1. The keys of the “alleged” bungalow that I apparently own in Paris. Because summer holidays are around the corner. 2. The “alleged” receipt worth 5 crores to frame n keep for future pitching coz I’ve been refused that money before 3. My memory of 2013 raid that happened with me according to our honourable finance minister P.S- “not so sasti” anymore.” she said.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, too, was raided by the I-T department. Both were reportedly questioned by officials in Pune. Searches took place at 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune.
Earlier, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has responded to Taapsee Pannu’s boyfriend, badminton coach Mathias Boe’s tweet about I-T raids on Taapsee. “Representing India…as…coach, meanwhile I-T department is raiding Taapsee’s houses…@KirenRijiju please do something,” wrote Mathias. “Law of the land is supreme and we must abide by that. The subject matter is beyond yours and my domain. We must stick to our professional duties in the best interest of Indian Sports,” Rijiju replied.
Meanwhile, on Friday finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman commented on the matter and said that the same people were raided back in 2013 as well but no issues were made out back then as it’s happening now.
“Answer it for the hypocrisy or answer it, saying from then this is happening till now, what’s the matter. In the national interest, do we want to know if there is some evasion happening” she added.
The Income Tax Department on March 3 began raids on the homes and offices of Pannu and Kashyap as well as his partners, who launched the now-shuttered production house Phantom Films.
The searches, part of a tax evasion probe against Phantom Films, carried out across 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune, also covered Reliance Entertainment group CEO Shibhashish Sarkar and some executives of celebrity and talent management companies KWAN and Exceed.
