Coimbatore: A 19-year-old student preparing for NEET committed suicide in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Monday. A student from Kallakurichi district, who was preparing for NEET for the third time, was found dead in a hostel room at the training center of a private school in Salem, police said. On the information of the hostel warden, the police reached the spot and recovered the student’s body and sent it to Salem Government Hospital for postmortem. Heavy police force was deployed as tension prevailed in and around the campus.
Police is investigating the cause of death
Athur Tehsildar, officials and police are probing the cause of death. Several NEET aspirants in Tamil Nadu have allegedly committed suicide fearing failure in the exam. The ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu is opposed to NEET and has even passed a bill in the assembly seeking exemption from the exam for admission to undergraduate medical courses.
