According to the information, Seriously injured people have been admitted to the nearest hospital. According to the police, all the deceased belonged to the same village and were returning to their hometown after a two-day visit to Mysore. The victims were seated on the road side when the accident happened.
A police officer said that all the people of the village were traveling in two vans. The victims had set out on a trip to Dharamshala, Karnataka on September 8. The victims were members of a group from village near Ambur in Vellore district. The deceased have been identified as Deivanai, Sithammal alias Selvi, Meera, Devaki, Savithri, Kalavathi and Geethanjali.
A vehicle’s tire burst and was undergoing repair near Natrampalli on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway. Meanwhile, some passengers came out of the van and sat in the middle of the road. At the same time, a mini truck coming from Krishnagiri collided with the van under repair, as a result of which the mini truck crushed the people si tting in front of it in the center median.
“It was early morning and visibility was low and the van was parked on a sharp turn, which could have been the reason for the speeding mini truck colliding with the van. Seven women died in the accident” 13 people suffered serious injuries on the spot, according to Tirupattur police officials.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin has expressed deep condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims. He has announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh to each of the affected families and Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister Public Relief Fund to those injured and currently receiving treatment.
