Tamil Nadu: On Thursday, Eight people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. The blast happened in a firecracker factory in Sivakasi's Sengamalapatti, owned by Sudharshan, destroying seven rooms of the factory.

Tamil Nadu: On Thursday, Eight people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. The blast happened in a firecracker factory in Sivakasi’s Sengamalapatti, owned by Sudharshan, destroying seven rooms of the factory.

Police said that 12 others have suffered burn injuries. As per local media, five female workers and three male workers lost their lives in the explosion. An official said that the company was a licensed unit. Police said that they are investigating what caused the explosion.

After receiving information about this incident, Fire and rescue service personnel are at the spot. According to the police, locals said that the magnitude of the blast was so high that a loud bang was heard from a distance of around 1 km.

They also said that white smoke can be seen emanating from the factory after the blast. Official added that further investigation is on. Sivakasi is known as the firecracker manufacturing center of India. This place is known for the production of firecrackers, safety matches and stationery items in the country.
