Kanchipuram Collector M Aarthi said that the injured have been admitted to the hospital. He said that the police will investigate the matter.
According to media reports, the firecracker factory is located at Vazhathottam, about 10 km from Kanchipuram. 25 people were working in the factory at the time of the incident. According to the fire department, the explosion also took place after a fire broke out in the factory. After this the entire factory collapsed.
Fire officials said the firecracker manufacturing unit had a valid license. Four units of fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
The Kanchipuram incident is the second fire accident in a week. Last week, two women were killed in a blast at a firecracker factory in Dharmapuri. Another woman was injured.
In fact, the three women were working in a firecracker unit at Nagadasampatti near Penagaram. Then there was a blast due to a sudden fire in the firecrackers. Police had said that the incident took place when the women were making firecrackers for the festivals to be held in the temple.
In another incident, a woman was killed and nine others were injured in an explosion at a firecracker unit. The incident took place at a firecracker factory at Sivanarapuram near Reddichavady in Cuddalore district. An employee was injured in a blast at a separate firecracker unit near Sivakasi.
