Born on 27 November 1977, Udhayanidhi started his political career as the head of the DMK youth wing ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin took oath as a cabinet minister today. Chief Minister MK Stalin had recommended Governor RN Ravi to include Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin in the Council of Ministers. The Governor has approved the recommendation. He is likely to be made the state sports minister, according to sources.
Udhayanidhi has inherited politics. Udhayanidhi Stalin, grandson of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late M Karunanidhi and son of DMK chief MK Stalin, is called Rising Sun. He is the third generation of the Stalin family.
Born on 27 November 1977, Udhayanidhi started his political career three years ago i.e. before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as the head of the DMK youth wing. During this he visited the state and campaigned fiercely for the party. During this he toured the entire state with a brick. The branding of this brick was done as a proof of the unfinished work of AIIMS-Madurai under the AIADMK-BJP government.
The film star, who runs one of the most prominent film companies in South India, was politically distant for the last two years. In 2021, he was offered a ticket from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni assembly constituency in Chennai, one of the DMK’s safest seats. Udhayanidhi is also a major attraction of DMK social media who is often shown visiting slums in his constituency.
Sources say Udhayanidhi’s elevation had been in store for the past few months and the leadership was waiting for him to complete his acting commitments before he could be inducted into the cabinet as a minister.
