Tamil Nadu: In view of heavy rainfall, schools and colleges in Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur district closed for a day

New Delhi: In view of incessant rainfall, the district magistrate has informed that a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Holiday has been declared for schools in Tiruvarur district as well. Apart from this, due to heavy rains in Nagapattinam district, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges.

New Delhi: In view of incessant rainfall, the district magistrate has informed that a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Holiday has been declared for schools in Tiruvarur district as well. Apart from this, due to heavy rains in Nagapattinam district, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges.

Yesterday, The India Meteorological Department said on Twitter that a depression has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal about 80 km off Sri Lankan coast and 400 km from Karaikal in Tamil Nadu. Due to the depression over the Bay of Bengal, a rain alert has been issued in its surrounding areas. This depression is moving fast and it is likely to weaken today. However, till February 3, its effect will be seen in southern parts of Tamil Nadu and South Kerala.

In the early hours of Thursday, the weather body added, “Depression over Southwest BoB lay centred at 2330 IST about 60 km Noetheast of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka) and 400 km Southeast of Karaikal (India). Very likely to move nearly west-southwest and cross Sri Lanka coast between Batticaloa and Trincomalee around the early morning of 02 Feb.”

On Thursday morning, The Regional Meteorological Center in Chennai said, “under its influence, light to moderate rain is very likely at many places over South Tamil Nadu and at one or two places over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on February 02. ” , Heavy rain is also very likely at one or two places over South Tamil Nadu on 0224 February 2023.”

This depression will slowly move south but remain over Gulf of Mannar, west coast of Sri Lanka and Comorin area till February 3. After this the depression will continue to weaken. It will be seen in these areas till 04 February 2023 in the form of rain and strong winds. Fishermen have also been issued a warning due to the rough sea conditions.
