The police is informed about the accident. Police started the rescue operation. Also, the injured were taken to the hospital. Police said that those who lost their lives in the accident included four men and a woman and a child. Three injured have been admitted to the government hospital.
Earlier, 8 Sabarimala pilgrims had died in an accident near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. A van fell into a gorge near Kumily in Theni district. There were 10 passengers in the van. The driver of the van lost control at the time of the accident. Due to this the van fell into the ditch, this incident happened at around 11 pm.
All the pilgrims were residents of Theni-Andipetty. Those who were returning from Theni. The accident took place on the Kumily-Kumbam road near the first penstock pipe that carried water to Tamil Nadu. The van carrying the pilgrims collided with this pipe and overturned and fell into a 40 feet deep gorge from the road.
