Team India aims for clean sweep against West Indies; reserve players may get chance in today’s match

Port of Spain: The upbeat Indian cricket team is set to make a clean sweep on Wednesday in the ongoing one-day series against the West Indies. The hosts, after losing the two consecutive close matches, would like to win the third one today at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, to salvage some pride.

India added another feather in its hat by creating a world record after winning its 12th successive bilateral series victory in the 50-over game against the Caribbean-the most against a side.

The coach and team management have the luxury of trying out those players who are warming the bench. Therefore, reserve players may get a chance to show their prowess against the dilapidated West Indies.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is unlikely to get a chance in the team because Shubman Gill has so far shown fine temperament and played two decent innings of 64 and 43 respectively.

Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson both had fifties against their names in the last game. The availability of Jadeja is still uncertain for the final game. Axar Patel fulfilled his absence after playing a cameo in the second ODI. His quick 64 helped Team India win the series.

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is likely to be included in the team in place of Avesh Khan, who proved expensive in the second match, as he leaked 54 runs in his six overs without capturing any wickets.

The hosts, as a unit, failed to deliver at crunch time. They lost both the matches from insight to the victory line. How to win a close match is an art. Australia and India have a mastery of this art.

The team has a wonderful combination of fine cricketers in the form of Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd. Pooran’s men have to show more resilience on the field to snatch victory from the jaws of opponents.

The West Indies have to come out of their shackles and break the jinx of an eight-match losing streak.

The pitch for the first two matches was batsmen-friendly. Both sides scored more than 300 runs. A different strip is expected in today’s match, which will start at 7 PM IST at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
