A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday for the alleged murder of a 37-year-old woman in Jahangirpuri, Delhi, following her objection to his relationship with her daughter due to religious differences. Along with him, two accomplices were also detained, as stated by the police.
The incident, which occurred at the victim’s home on Friday, stemmed from the woman’s disapproval of the boy’s relationship with her 15-year-old daughter. Authorities noted that the suspect, who could not find the girl at her home, fatally shot her mother after a heated exchange about the girl’s whereabouts.
Family members expressed frustration over police inaction, claiming that they had previously reported threats made by the boy against the girl’s parents. Despite these warnings and the boy’s history of similar threats, the response from law enforcement was reportedly inadequate.
The police disclosed that the victim’s daughter and the suspect had a history of eloping multiple times, resulting in several police interventions and legal actions, including charges of kidnapping and rape against the boy. In an attempt to sever the relationship, the girl’s parents had recently sent her to a boarding school outside of Delhi, a move that allegedly provoked the fatal confrontation.
In response to the murder, additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any communal unrest, given the religious differences between the parties involved and the sensitive nature of the locality.
