Lucknow: With India taking a leap in 5G era of technology, employment opportunities in the telecom sector are likely to witness a hike of 20% in the year 2021. Then expected growth will be driven by telecom companies expanding their capacities and rolling out 5G services to the customers, as per market experts.
This leap in 5G is expected to have a wide range of opportunities for everyone from RF engineers, field engineers, software engineers, and developers. Meanwhile, BSNL’s 4G upgrade also deserves to be given credit for this speculated boost to telecom jobs in India.
However, the market had seen a sharp fall in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where nearly every sector had faced a heavy loss, except the telecom sector, that emerged stronger. For telecom companies 2020 was a busy year as they hired new talents, leading to employment growth of 15%. As per experts this data will get even better in 2021.
“We expect to see a 18-20% growth in employment opportunities in the telecom sector in 2021. This growth will be primarily driven by telecom companies expanding their capacities and the expected 5G rollout,” said a business market analyst.
The market analyst also witnessed a 30% boom in telecom jobs in 2020, which is higher than the industry average of 15%. He expects the industry-wide average to stand around the 18-20% mark this year. Talking about the vast consumer market and the talent pool in the country he said, “India will take center stage with regard to maintaining network services , optimization and development of internet along with associated networks as well as research and development of global delivery centers.”
As per analysts, RF engineers, fiber laying, testers, quality check engineers, and field engineers, are to be the most sought-after jobs in the Indian telecom industry in 2021. According to them, these jobs would fetch up to ₹3.75 lakh per annum, with allowances on top.
Regarding telecom’s strategies for new hiring it is said that they will be looking forward towards operating, maintaining and optimizing the existing 3G and 4G infrastructure, as well as testing and rolling out 5G services.
BSNL’s 4G upgrade is also one of the main factors that will give a further boost to telecom jobs. It is expected that the growth in 4G will be for two reasons; first to expand the network capacities and second by the state-run telco BSNL rolling out tenders to upgrade its network to 4G finally.
